Scripting Citrix 7.x Storefront with LoadRunner/VuGen
Posted on September 13, 2018 by Tony Gartrell
For all LoadRunner users who work with Citrix deployed applications, it is important to note that there have been major changes to the Citrix 7.x architecture which will directly impacts how LoadRunner scripts are created. One of the big changes is that Citrix 7.x no longer uses ICA files to connect to the server. Instead, the ICA information is generated on the fly and is only usable for a short period of time. Additionally, with the addition of the Citrix Storefront, the login and published app selection is HTML only.

Web Analytics Won’t Tell You Enough About Your Customers
Posted on October 1, 2013 by Admin
Every few days I get a general report from our web site analytics showing basic information about who is on our site and how the information is being used. I generally look at this to see if we are actually helping people. If there are pages on are site that are not providing value, then why are they out there? We constantly try to improve any pages that are rarely viewed, and sometimes we remove the page altogether. We recently started the Northway Navigators Club so that technical users can access our growing knowledge base.

Xenapp Lingering Interferes with Vugen Recording in LoadRunner
Posted on September 20, 2013 by Admin
Recently one of our LoadRunner consultants was experiencing Vugen recording issues using the Citrix/Xenapp protocol. After some investigation into the configuration settings on the Xenapp server, a focus was placed on the “Linger” setting. When it was turned on, the session could not be properly hooked into by the recording engine of Vugen. Here is what Citrix says about this setting:
Linger settings

LoadRunner 11: Capturing text using the Citrix Agent on XenApp 6.5 SOLVED
Posted on July 13, 2012 by Admin
Recently at one of our clients, they had an issue with not being able to capture text with the ctrx_get_text function using the 64-Bit version of the Citrix Agent for LoadRunner 11. Read the steps here that finally fixed the issue for them. This is based on XenApp 6.5. The client was running Windows 2008 RS SP1. This resolution references Win2008R2, but it still worked. Notice it is for version 11 Patch 2 of the Citrix Agent (not Patch 2 of LoadRunner as a whole). Patch 3 version of the Citrix agent had issues with the Read Entire Entry

Loadrunner Citrix and Remote Desktop Conflict – SOLVED
Posted on July 22, 2010 by Admin
We have been working with a client for weeks to solve an issue with LoadRunner 9.52 that I am happy to report is now solved.
Problem: After creating a Citrix script in Vugen and getting a successful playback on a local machine, the script would be moved to the LoadRunner Controller to test it out with multiple virtual users. Sometimes the scripts would throw the error, “Failed to retrieve the ICA client Bitmap: Reason: The server threw an exception”. This happened for all ctrx_sync_on_windows functions on all scripts, but onl Read Entire Entry

Citrix Presentation Server Settings and LoadRunner
Posted on October 20, 2009 by Admin
Recently I was working on a Citrix testing project with LoadRunner and I was reminded of all the server settings for the Citrix servers and Generators that have to be checked, in addition to all of the Vugen script run-time settings, and script enhancement. In some cases, we at Loadtester have had to become part-time Citrix server administrators to get our projects done on time. One of the Citrix server settings we always recommend initially is for any session that disconnects to be reset to login, instead of leaving it open. This Read Entire Entry

Does LoadRunner 9.51 support the Citrix Xen App Client?
Posted on August 10, 2009 by Admin
A recent knowledge base article was added on the HP Support site for LoadRunner 9.51. KM755736 now states:
“Yes, LR 951 supports Citrix client 11.0. However, please make sure the registry patch is applied after this citrix client installation.”
The patch adds a couple of keys to registry;[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\Engine\Lockdown Profiles\All Regions\Lockdown\Virtual Channels\Third Party\CustomVC]

Web Click and Script actually does work
Posted on March 27, 2009 by Admin
On my latest engagement, I needed a web script to go with all of the Citrix scripts I am creating. The web script was giving me some issues with correlation and NT authentication, so I decided to give Web Click and Script a try. I didn’t have much expectation since neither I nor my colleagues have been able to get it to work in the past, but I thought that it would be worth a try in 9.5. Imagine my surprise when it actually worked! This could partly be because the javascript is minimal. That seems to be where C&S hangs.

LoadRunner Citrix Protocol: Creating ICA files
Posted on March 23, 2009 by Admin
When writing Citrix scripts, I depend on ICA files almost exclusively as my means of connecting to the published application. In past versions of Citrix, ICA files were very easy for Citrix admins to create. When Presentation server 4.0 came out, they removed the ability to create these files easily. While searching for an way to do this myself, I ran across an application that I am going to consider essential for any of my future Citrix engagements. It is called Smart Citrix ICA Client. It allows you to select all of your connection Read Entire Entry

LoadRunner Citrix Scripting Tricks
Posted on August 8, 2007 by Admin
Note: This article was originally posted on Loadtester.com, and has been migrated to the Northway web site to maintain the content online.
Citrix applications represent the second most common protocol for LoadRunner engagements at Loadtester Incorporated Northway Solutions Group. Our white paper from 2006 on Citrix best practices continues to be a very popular download on the site. In 2008, we’ve presented this information to the Citrix iForum and at local user groups. There continues to be a lot of interest in testing Citrix Read Entire Entry -
